Elementary

Elementary

The elementary program is set to serve children first grade through sixth grade. Lower Elementary, which includes first through third graders, enriches students using a multitude of hands-on materials. Upper Elementary, servicing our fourth through six graders, deepens and builds upon new skills with more abstraction.

1st grade - 6th grade: 8am - 3:30pm, wrap around care available

When a child moves up from the primary classroom, they are ready for Montessori’s Great Lessons. These lessons provide the child with the context necessary to discover where they are in relation to the universe’s history. We explore where we are from the smallest molecule to the largest celestial body. We spark the child’s imagination by telling these grand stories of how our planet developed living organisms, how humans learned to communicate, use math, and navigate the planet using sciences, and how we are interrelated with all of our surroundings.

The child’s imagination is an avenue to a greater and more meaningful practice in learning language, math, science, zoology, botany, science, and the arts. In each subject area, the classroom is prepared with concrete materials that bring each lesson to life. The child can touch each part of their math problem, a symbol representing each part of speech in language, and endless specimens from both the plant and animal kingdoms.

Geography lessons are used as a way to connect the child to people from all over the world. Beginning in the Lower Elementary classroom, each child receives a professional culinary arts lesson that is themed to a country of their choosing. We research the cuisine, ingredients, and process, before selecting a recipe that is then prepared for snack.
